Visas

The Namibian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stipulates that all foreign nationals visiting Namibia for business purposes need a visa prior to travel. “A business visa in Namibia is defined as the Visa issued to people,” among others, “attending conferences, corporate events (not work) and meetings for which no remuneration is received.”

This means, therefore, that everyone participating in the Twelfth Assembly needs a business visa to enter Namibia. Read the visa procedure document.
 

Procedure

Complete and sign the application form and send it together with a scanned copy of the first page of your passport (showing your photo and basic information such as the passport number and validity) to [email protected] as soon as possible and no later than 20 March 2017. Visa application form.

  • your passport must be valid six months from the date of entry to Namibia and contain at least three blank pages
  • the Ministry for Home Affairs will not accept visa applications at the airport upon arrival

Letters of invitation will be issued by the host churches under the umbrella of the United Church Council of the Namibian Evangelical Lutheran Churches (UCC-NELC) and the LWF.

The invitation letters will be submitted to the ministry, together with your visa application form and a scanned copy of your passport. Once received and processed, the ministry will issue your visa.

Your visa will be sent to you in PDF as an email attachment. Together with your visa, you will also receive your letters of invitation from the UCC-NELC and the LWF.

When you start your journey to Windhoek, the visa along with the letters of invitation must be presented together with your passport when you check-in your first flight and whenever you are asked to present your passport in case of security checks.On your arrival at the Hosea Kutako airport and upon presentation of your passport, visa issued by the ministry and letters of invitation, a visa will be stamped on your passport. Note that you may be asked to present proof of a return ticket. There is no fee for a business visa.

    Transit visa

    In case of stop in an international airport, you might be request to be in possession of a transit visa. Please check if you need a transit visa prior to your departure.

    Transit visa doesn’t apply if you are transiting in following South African airports:

    • O. R. Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg)
    • Cape Town International Airport
    • King Shaka International Airport (Durban)
    • Lanseria International Airport (northwest of Johannesburg)
    Vaccinations

    There is no risk of yellow fever in Namibia. There is no risk of malaria in Windhoek. It is recommended that participants in the Youth Pre-Assembly in Ondangwa from 3 to 9 of May take antimalarial pills, even if the risk of contracting malaria is low in May. In any case, consult your doctor prior to travel.

    Some recommended, but not compulsory, vaccinations would be those against hepatitis A and typhoid.

    The Namibian Government requires proof of yellow fever vaccination only if you are arriving from a country with risk of yellow fever.
