Pre-Assemblies

The road to Namibia

The Twelfth Assembly is not a one-off meeting but is part of a journey that starts before and continues after the Assembly. One of the most prominent events in the lead-up is a series of global gatherings aimed at generating excitement and developing thinking and reflection on the significance of the Assembly. Pre-assemblies are gatherings of Lutheran representatives by region, or as groups of women or youth. They help delegates address critical issues and ensure constructive dialogue.

Regional pre-Assemblies are essential signposts on the way to Namibia. They both enable delegates to understand the context of the Assembly as well as how to take part in the Assembly. They both enable delegates to understand the context of the Assembly as well as how to take part in the Assembly. The regional pre-assemblies, being the place where slates of nominees for the Council are deliberated and put together, will help to ensure an effective LWF Council. In order to facilitate this task, the Guidelines for Council Membership, a document that spells out the expectations and responsibilities of Council members has been developed and sent to member churches. Pre-Assemblies help prepare an Assembly to address critical issues and ensure a constructive dialogue around these.
